Gunkul Engineering Public Company Limited (GUNKUL) has signed a contract with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) for the construction of a 500-kilovolt (500kV) high-voltage transmission line worth over THB 675 million. The project will span from Bang Lamung to Pluak Daeng, enhancing the capacity to meet increasing electricity demand driven by the continued growth of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), in line with GUNKUL’s vision to expand into green energy and infrastructure.

Ms. Naruechon Dhumrongpiyawut, Chief Executive Officer of GUNKUL, revealed that the company was entrusted by EGAT to execute the 500kV high-voltage transmission line project covering 37 kilometers from Bang Lamung 2 substation in Chonburi to Pluak Daeng substation in Rayong. The project will be carried out through a joint venture between GUNKUL’s subsidiary, Future Electrical Control Co., Ltd. (FEC), and China National Heavy Machinery Corporation (CHMC), with a total contract value of THB 675,144,143. The scope includes procurement of both domestic and imported equipment, logistics, and full-scale installation.

This high-voltage engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) project falls under one of GUNKUL’s three core business pillars. The 500kV transmission line represents Thailand’s highest voltage level and is a key part of the national power transmission system, requiring highly specialized engineering expertise.

Mr. Teerawut Wetathum, Deputy Governor for Transmission System Development at EGAT, shared: “EGAT’s mission is to generate, procure, and distribute electricity to support Thailand’s economic growth and enhance quality of life. The Bang Lamung 2 – Pluak Daeng 500kV transmission line project is part of EGAT’s initiative to upgrade the power grid in the Eastern region, an area crucial to Thailand’s industrial landscape. The line connects Bang Lamung 2 Substation in Chonburi to Pluak Daeng Substation in Rayong, spanning 37.34 kilometers.”

GUNKUL is confident in its ability to deliver the project on time and to the highest standard. Once completed, the transmission line will significantly enhance electricity distribution capacity and energy security in the region, particularly in the EEC—Thailand’s key industrial and economic development zone. The project also supports the evolution of the digital power grid, helping businesses access clean energy and contributing to national Net Zero Emissions targets.

“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to EGAT for their continued trust in our capabilities and experience in high-level energy infrastructure, which plays a vital role in strengthening Thailand’s long-term economic potential,” said Ms. Naruechon.
